St Vincents Hospital Melbourne
The Upper GI Unit is part of the combined HPB and Upper GI unit at St.Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. There are two principal surgeons within the Upper GI Unit and three within the HPB Unit, with some cross over. Our Unit performs the full range of oesophagogastric and HPB resections. These resections and interventions are undertaken by open, laparoscopic, endoscopic and robotic techniques. We cover the full spectrum of malignant and benign oesophagogastric work with a significant focus on the malignant work, but also a substantial volume of hiatus hernia, achalasia, intrathoracic stomach and bariatric work.
In terms of endoscopic work there is interventional endoscopy exposure including POEM, peroral endoscopic myotomy, stenting, ERCP and endoscopic resection. The Fellow would be involved in surgery at St.Vincent’s Public Melbourne, St.Vincent’s Private Hospital and Epworth Private Hospital.
The Fellow will participate in all the public operating lists and some of the private operating lists, and they will be heavily involved in the Unit as a Junior Consultant in the On Call process.
The workload will be split between operative and endoscopic lists, Clinics, MDT and x-ray meeting. The Fellow will be responsible for the oversight of the MDT meetings. We expect the Fellow to attend the local Melbourne Upper GI and HPB surgical meetings as well as any other relevant meetings. The Fellow has access to space within the Department of Surgery and is given dedicated time each week to perform research and administrative tasks, and will be expected to publish during the fellowship year.
